Memorial Service for Stanley Wing

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR FORMER OSLC MEMBER STANLEY WING: Stanley Wing, a member of OSLC from the late 70s and into the 90s recently passed away in Florida. His daughter Nancy noted that several OSLC members attended her mother Alfreda Wing’s memorial service 10 years ago. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Wing at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, at Fairlee Community Church of Christ, 55 Town Common Road, Fairlee, Vermont. A reception will follow. He felt very much at home at OSLC and at Emmanuel Lutheran in Naples.  crossStanley WingStanley K. Wing, born January 29, 1925 in Magog, Quebec, Canada, son of the late Raymond K. and Ruth E. (Patch) Wing, died September 12, 2018 in Naples, Florida. He was educated in Canada and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.

He was employed by the Dominion Textile Co. Ltd. until Dec 1953. He moved to the United States in December 1953 and became a U.S. citizen in 1957.

On moving to Thetford, Vermont from West Lebanon, New Hampshire in May 1954, he bought the general store in East Thetford, later called Wing’s Market. He also opened Wing’s Market in Fairlee in 1964. He retired in December 1988.

He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hanover, then Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Naples, Florida;a member of the Masonic Lodge of West Fairlee; a director of Associated Grocers of New England; and a director of Vermont Retail & Grocers Association.

He enjoyed dog sledding, fishing and hunting. In the late 1970s he raised 23 Siberian Huskies at his home on Latham Road, Thetford, and with his son, Russ, trained two sled teams on old trails near the Union Village Dam in Thetford Center.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Florence C. Wing and by two children, Mary W. Davenport and husband Don of Fairlee, and Nancy A. Wing of Savage, Maryland, daughter-in-law Rebecca C. Wing of Nottingham, NH, six grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a niece, and two nephews. He is predeceased by his former wife Alfreda S. Wing, brother Douglas R. Wing, and son Russell R. Wing.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Fairlee Community Church of Christ, 55 Town Common Road, officiated by Pastor Dick Hodge. Reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orange East Senior Center, 176 Waits River Rd, Bradford, VT 05033.

Interment will be in North Thetford Cemetery, Vermont, at a later date.

  1. Thanks for posting this announcement. Dad so enjoyed your fellowship during his time at OSLC, so I wanted to be sure you all could learn of his passing and of the memorial service we are planning for this coming weekend.
